Gain an insight into life as a beekeeper and get practical hands on experience with a real hive of honeybees in one of our apiaries in rural Hertfordshire.
Ever wondered where we source our delicious raw honey for our Hitchin Honey Spirits? Then you’re about to find out! Our beekeeping experience sessions are set amongst the beautiful fields of Weston in rural Hertfordshire. You will gain an insight into life as a beekeeper, and receive practical, hands-on experience with a real hive of bees in our ultimate beekeeping experience session.
After introductions, Andre will run through a short intro to honeybees and beekeeping, including safety around hives. During this introduction Andre will explain how bees live, work and make honey. Then it will be time to put on a beekeeping suit and have an up close look at the hives. You’ll hold a frame of bees and identify workers and drones and try to find the Queen bee.
All you need to bring is a sense of adventure and a pair of wellies! Sessions are held outdoors, last for two hours and we’ll finish the session with a refreshing Hitchin Honey Gin & Tonic made with honey from our own hives. We look forward to welcoming you!
